A mechanical engineer is an engineer who researches, designs and tests various mechanical parts or systems. Mechanical engineers create solutions and troubleshoot problems, playing a key role in the design and implementation of systems parts in many industries. They enjoy solving problems using powerful mathematical, scientific, and analytic skills.
Mechanical engineers can be involved in managing people, projects, and resources, as well as in developing and using new materials and technologies. It is predicted that an increasing number of engineers will have interdisciplinary training courses, more often working in multidisciplinary teams. Mechanical engineers must be strong, analytical and creative who can solve the problems that customers or employers are putting on them.
Many mechanical engineers are employed in the architectural or engineering industry, while a smaller percentage are used in other industries such as research and development and aerospace production. Engineers will often have to invent new mechanical system designs or invent innovative ways of applying old ideas and concepts to new problems.
Like other engineers, mechanics use computers to design and analyze projects, simulate and test the likely operation of a machine. In addition, a mechanical engineer may also consult with distributors, suppliers, and machine experts.
